Bougie for a day

Beverly Hills, California

A week or so ago, I scurried my "bougie" behind over to Beverly Hills to pick up (ahem) a little tote bag from the house of "Louis". Just a little something to make me feel better about having to go to work EVERYDAY. Yes, yes I know I am yelling and I know I should be grateful to have a job/career (I am). But not a day goes by that I am not trying to think of  the perfect business to start, with which I will realize enormous success and make obscene amounts of money. I think about it on the way to work, I talk about it constantly to my partner in crime - Ramona, and I think about it on the way home. This has been going on for years. I have tried my hand at several businesses with mixed results, but ultimately I do not seem to possess that killer, shark/barracuda instinct one needs to succeed in business. I'm just good at getting paperwork done.  I can start the hell out of a business for you. Business plan, DBA, business license, bank account, P.O. Box, business cards, website, chamber of commerce mixers, marketing ideas, etc. But beyond that, something - (living indoors, food, running water, working lights, having a car and so on) always stops me from taking the plunge.
I consider it one thing to be successful in a job and quite something else to have success on your own terms as an entrepreneur. Those of you who have been bitten by the "business bug" know what I mean.
For now I will toil on in my good government job, with good benefits. But some day when I am less cowardly I will give notice and quietly hang out a shingle at Mignonne, Inc.

You can take the girl out of Compton, but . . .
Yes I did pose for this cheesy "Look at me" photo in front of the Vuitton store, like I ain't never been nowhere.

Hayden the Dog. Fresh to death.

My new fly glasses.
$10 co-pay.
Good insurance.
That's what I'm talkin' about.
My real life.

BOUGIE
Adjective used by Black folks meaning extravagant, often to the point of snobbery. Usually used in relation to the conspicuous consumption of the urban upper-middle class. Derived from "bourgeois".
"What kind of chips are those?"
"Organic Parmesan Oregano with Olive Oil, they're four dollars a bag".
"Man those are bougie chips".
